SBCCD teams up with CSUSB Police to dispatch campus police officers
In an effort to improve the overall level of service and improve response time of campus police officers at San Bernardino Valley College and Crafton Hills College, SBCCD is now partnering with Cal State San Bernardino Regional Communications Center to manage calls for service throughout SBCCD.
Why did SBCCD choose to partner with CSUSB?
This partnership is not uncommon. By transferring processes to a fully staffed centralized dispatch center, SBCCD’s police department will be able to reduce response times and increase overall effectiveness by freeing up available officers who would be otherwise working inside the SBCCD office or in the field answering forwarded phone lines.
What is the CSUSB Regional Communications Center?
The Regional Communication Center is staffed with a team of fully trained police dispatchers; P.O.S.T. certified by the state, and with similar responsibilities as any city or county police/sheriff department. The center is staffed at all times, 24/7, by fully trained dispatchers who answer both 9–1–1, business and other related phones. The center has eight full-time and two part-time dispatchers. Under the management of the Associate Director of Police Services, and supervision from the Support Services Supervisor and the Dispatch Supervisor, the Communication Center efficiently communicates between the campus communities of CSUSB, San Bernardino Community College District, Chaffey Community College District and Riverside Community College District and those police officers in the field, collecting general or emergency information quickly, calmly, and accurately.
How long will CSUSB provide these services and when will they do so?
CSUSB will provide dispatch services for SBCCD 24/7, including federal and state holidays. This partnership contract has a term of five years.
Who do I call in case of an emergency?
For emergency and non-emergency incidents, faculty, students and staff throughout SBCCD should call the current SBCCD Police Department phone number, (909) 384–4491. The call will be rerouted to the CSUSB Regional Communication Center which will provide assistance.
How can I be prepared in the event I need to contact the SBCCD police department?
Be prepared to provide information and answer questions as if you were calling 9–1–1. The Regional Communication Center at CSUSB will need to know your specific campus location, and any other relevant information that will help the call taker dispatch assistance appropriately.
