The San Bernardino Community College District Board of Trustees is accepting applications to fill its Area 4 seat after Trustee Dr. Donald L. Singer announced his resignation, effective Sept. 15. Applications to fill the vacancy are due Sept. 29 by 4 p.m.

SBCCD Trustee Area 4 represents Loma Linda, Redlands, and portions of Colton and San Bernardino.

Interested individuals may obtain an application at the SBCCD headquarters, located at 550 E. Hospitality Ln., Suite 200 in San Bernardino, or online at www.sbccd.edu/about-sbccd/board-of-trustees.

The board, which guides policy and budget for Crafton Hills College, San Bernardino Valley College, and Empire KVCR TV/FM, hopes to appoint a new member by Oct. 28.

The person appointed will serve out the remainder of Singer’s term that expires in December 2022. The next scheduled election for the full-term seat on the SBCCD Board for Area 4 is on Nov. 8, 2022.

Eligible candidates must be registered voters and residents of Trustee Area 4. SBCCD faculty and staff may apply but must resign employment from the district if appointed by the board to fill the vacancy.

Singer was elected to the board in 2001 and served as president of Crafton Hills College from 1982 to 1990 and as president of San Bernardino Valley College from 1990 to 1997.

SBCCD educates nearly 15,000 students and is a major employer in the Inland Empire, with more than 1,300 faculty and professional staff members. The district generates about $621 million in annual regional economic impact through business partnerships, alumni salaries, and student spending.

Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College offer more than 140 academic and career training programs, including transfer pathways to four-year universities. Beyond its two campuses, SBCCD owns and operates Empire KVCR TV/FM, the PBS and NPR affiliate station for the Inland Empire, and FNX | First Nations Experience, the nation’s first and only television network exclusively devoted to Native American and World Indigenous programming.
